NDIS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
What are the NDIS and WA NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.
The NDIS will provide about 460,000 Australians aged under 65 who have a permanent and significant disability with the supports they need to live an ordinary life.
Western Australia will be operating the WA NDIS model run by the WA Disability Services Commission.
WA NDIS is consistent with the national NDIS regarding eligibility, supports and portability across Australia, but has its own highly personalised, local, relationship based model of service delivery.
How does it work?
WA NDIS takes a flexible approach, working with people with disability, their families and carers to develop personalised plans.
Under the WA NDIS people with disability have more choice and control over how, when and where their supports are provided. They also have a greater certainty that they will receive the support they need over their lifetime.
